Target releases Black Friday ad with deals on electronics, toys, more starting Sunday. Whats different amid COVID? – USA TODAY

It’s the Black Friday moment that holiday shoppers have been waiting for: Target unwrapped the closely guarded details of its fourth and final sales ad Thursday, with discounts on everything from clothes, electronics to books and toys.

The deals go live early Sunday morning in a holiday shopping season unlike any other amid the coronavirus pandemic. The weeklong sale ends the day after Black Friday on Saturday, Nov. 28.

Like many retailers, Target has revamped the traditional and short holiday shopping extravaganza to spread out demand and reduce crowds.

Since Nov. 1, the Minneapolis-based retailer has been holding a series of weekly sales dubbed “Black Friday Now” to help shoppers plan for “a safe, stress-free shopping experience” amid the pandemic.

Another change for 2020 is that Target says “nearly all” of the “Black Friday Now” deals will be available for an entire week, both in stores and online. Contactless, same-day Drive Up and Order Pickup services are available for orders on either platform, or can be received via same-day delivery with Shipt.

Walmart has also held a series of sales called “Black Friday Deals for Days” and its final sale starts online at 7 p.m. ET Wednesday, Nov. 25, and in-store sales start at 5 a.m. local time Black Friday.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention classified “shopping at crowded stores just before, on or after Thanksgiving” on a list of higher-risk activities to avoid and suggested more online shopping.

Target started talking about a different holiday shopping season in July when officials announced stores would be closed this Thanksgiving for the first time since 2011.

Target ‘Black Friday Now’ deals

Here are a few of the deals listed in Target’s ad posted on Target.com, which notes quantities are limited:

  • TCL 65-inch 4K Ultra HD Smart Android TV with HDR for $229.99
  • KitchenAid 5-Quart Professional Stand Mixer for $199.99
  • Buy two, get one free of books, music and movies
  • 50% off select toys

Target price match guarantee

Target is extending its Price Match Guarantee through Dec. 24. As part of that program, Target will continue to match select competitors’ prices within 14 days of the purchase but will offer a longer period for price adjustments for Target items advertised as “Black Friday deals.”

The extended Target price adjustments are for select in-store and online purchases made through Nov. 28.

“If you purchase any item advertised as a ‘Black Friday deal’ in store or online and the price goes lower on or before December 24, 2020, you can request a price match,” Target explains. “Original receipts or packing slips are required for price adjustments after purchase.”

Target said store price matches and adjustments can be completed at any checkout lane and for Target.com purchases, call Target.com Guest Services at 1-800-591-3869.

Exclusions apply. Learn more at Target.com.
