A few weeks ago, the University of Miami announced that they were rescheduling the three remaining games on the Hurricanes schedule due to a COVID-19 outbreak within the program.
After a two week hiatus, Miami was scheduled to travel to Wake Forest this upcoming Saturday, but that game was also scratched because of high numbers on the Demon Deacons roster. On Sunday night, the ACC announced that UM would in fact be playing this upcoming weekend. Miami will now be traveling to Durham, North Carolina to take on the Duke Blue Devils at 8:00 p.m. Saturday. The game will be televised on ACC Network.
David Cutcliffe’s team was scheduled to play Florida State on December 5th, but the Seminoles are dealing with COVID-19 issues of their own and are not expected to be able to play. That left a window open for both teams to play, which is big for a Miami team that is still alive in the conference championship picture.
Duke (2-7) is coming off a 56-33 loss at Georgia Tech, a game which they allowed 523 total yards to a 3-5 Yellow Jackets team. But the Blue Devils have been a tough out for Miami, who have dropped the last two matchups against the ACC Coastal program. In 2018, Miami lost 20-12 in a rainy game at Hard Rock Stadium. Last year, the Miami was outscored 14-3 in the second half of the game at Wallace Wade Stadium to lose 27-17 in the regular season finale.
Miami (7-1) is in a very different position than they’ve been over the last two meetings. The Hurricanes are No. 9 in the AP Poll and came in at No. 10 in the College Football Playoff Rankings last week. If the Hurricanes were to end their drought against Duke, they would collect their fifth consecutive win since dropping an early October game against Clemson.
