Tom Herman is currently employed as the head coach of the Texas Longhorns, but that hasn’t stopped the UT brass from meeting with his potential replacement, according to a new report.
According to John Brice of FootballScoop, both University of Texas president Jay Hartzell and athletics director Chris Del Conte flew to meet with Urban Meyer. According to Brice, Meyer spent time in Los Angeles and Napa Valley this week after his weekend work as a FOX college football analyst.
“They’re doing everything they can do to convince him,” Brice quotes a source with direct knowledge of the talks between Texas and Meyer.
Brice’s report goes on to detail that Meyer’s “core four” group of staffers, including former Florida LB Ryan Stamper, are still involved with Ryan Day’s Ohio State program and may not be looking to leave OSU for Texas.
Sources tell FootballScoop not all would be inclined to leave OSU should Urban take another job. Sources tell FootballScoop Urban has sought input from those he trusts as to whom he could build that next “core four” from if needed.
Meyer also still holds a position in the OSU athletic department and an interest in the Columbus-area restaurant and bar bearing his name (Urban Meyer’s Pint House).
Meyer is 187-32 as a college football head coach. He retired after the 2018 season.
