Billy Napier says he’s ‘moving forward at Louisiana’ – AL.com

Billy Napier is staying put at Louisiana, at least for now.

Napier announced late Saturday that he’s “moving forward at Louisiana,” despite interviewing for the opening at South Carolina. The Ragin’ Cajuns beat Appalachian State 24-21 on Friday night to improve to 9-1 this season.

A former quarterback at Furman and a former assistant coach at both South Carolina State and Clemson, Napier has deep ties to that state. He also coached in the SEC as Alabama’s wide receivers coach from 2013-16.

Nevertheless, he released the following statement via Twitter:

The 41-year-old Napier is 27-11 in three seasons at Louisiana, with three Sun Belt Conference West Division titles. The Ragin’ Cajuns face Coastal Carolina for the Sun Belt championship on Dec. 19.

Napier is one of two sitting head coaches who announced Saturday they were staying put after interviewing at South Carolina, which fired Will Muschamp on Nov. 15. Louisville’s Scott Satterfield also said Saturday he’s not leaving to coach the Gamecocks, after first denying any interest.
