Turns out there was a reason.
Lynn and his agent at Excel Sports Management, Bobby Barad, informed the Rangers he would opt out of the season if he was sent to a team he did not wish to join, according to major-league sources.
The story ended happily on Monday night for both Lynn and the Rangers, when the team reached agreement with the White Sox on a trade that will reunite the right-hander with his former manager with the Cardinals, Tony La Russa.
The deal, which is pending a review of medical records, seemingly will yield a favorable return for the Rangers – right-hander Dane Dunning, the No. 6 prospect in the White Sox’s deep system according to Keith Law, and left-hander Avery Weems, the Sox’s sixth-round pick in 2019.
