The 8GB/128GB Lenovo Chromebook Flex 5 is officially available – Chrome Unboxed

A couple of weeks ago, we were tipped on the arrival of an upgraded version of the Lenovo Chromebook Flex 5, and today, that device is officially available. While we love the original Flex 5 with its Core i3 CPU and an impressive $409 price tag, we firmly believe that flagship Chromebooks should come with no less than 8GB of RAM. We’ve seen this variation of the Flex 5 overseas but we have been anxious to see the same configuration here in the states and this specific version is nearly everything that we had hoped.

The biggest news about this new model is the upgrade to 8GB of RAM but Lenovo also bumped the storage to 128GB of NVMe storage which is simply icing on the cake. It not only doubles the storage but you get the added bonus of that zippy NVMe that you won’t find on the 4GB/64GB model on Amazon. This Chromebook gets even better because the price bump is a mere $99. You get the extra RAM that you really need on a device like this, the extra storage and it’s only $499. The only disappointing thing I can see is that the new Flex 5 didn’t get the 300 nit screen that we heard about back at CES.

Anyway, this Chromebook retails $130 less than the comparable HP Chromebook x360 14c and offers a great Chrome OS experience any way you slice it. The only catch is that you can only get it from Costco but don’t worry, you don’t have to have a membership. Non-members have to pay a 5% surcharge but that still grabs you a premium Chromebook for only $568 and I feel that it’s worth every penny. Check it out at Costco via the link below.
