Ohio State is going to the Big Ten Championship Game as a 5-0 team and the world has been set on fire because of it. There are a lot of layers we could peel back here, but the crux of why the college football world is standing on end is because the Big Ten changed its minimum game policy to advance the Buckeyes to Indy to face West division champ Northwestern.
The move effectively pushed second-place Indiana out of the Big Ten Championship Game. It really makes perfect sense because the Buckeyes already beat the Hoosiers on the field, but nobody wants to hear or listen to that because there are implications in places that drink sweet tea and eat grits and barbecue.
And, despite almost the entire conference coming together to not penalize Ohio State for things it cannot control, social media has been abuzz with vitriol and criticism. Heck, even Indiana released a classy statement with an understanding of the situation.
Regardless, we thought it’d be fun to collect some of the meanest and outlandish Tweets criticizing and bashing Ohio State. So, here you go. Enjoy the unfettered nonsense that can be found on the app called Twitter.

If Ohio State was 6-1 with a loss to Indiana and the Hoosiers were 5-0, would the Big Ten have changed its rule?

Thank you Big Ten for rewarding Ohio state and penalizing Indiana. Wrong in so many ways. Hoosiers deserve the chance. Clean program, clean Covid process. Big 10 coach of the year!!!

Is the Big Ten likely to stick to it’s originally agreed upon Championship rules for this season? pic.twitter.com/cixEwhJYnD

It’s amazing how Indiana gets punished for being Indiana. Y’all ain’t slick. Literally if we were any other team in the big ten east not named Rutgers or Maryland this would be a completely different story. Just cuz of the “tradition” of certain programs.

The Big Ten’s press release about Big Ten title game said its decision was based on “competitive analysis” by the ADs and presidents.

What the Big Ten is saying:
1) Ohio State is more important to us than Indiana.
2) Ohio State is more important to us than Nebraska.
3) We value money more than rules.
4) All of the above. https://t.co/LBFpnB0cZ4— Sports Law Lust🎙 (@SportsLawLust) December 9, 2020
Indiana wins at Wisconsin with a backup QB, and they stay 12th in the CFB rankings. Absolutely absurd. And now they’ll find a way to screw IU out of the Big Ten title game and bend over backwards, change the rules, whatever they have to do to put Ohio St. in. Why create the rule?
— Justin Albers (@Justin_Albers) December 9, 2020
Imagine, if you will, that Indiana beat OSU, and their game this weekend was cancelled but OSU still played Michigan this week. Would the Big Ten have been willing to adjust rules for IU the same way they’re talking about doing for OSU, or is it just what’s “best for business”
— Andy Gibson (@andgibz) December 8, 2020
Big 10 is going to cancel Northwestern’s game vs Illinois now to make sure the Wildcats have the same level playing field of a bye week before the championship game right?
They aren’t just going to change the rules for Ohio State AND give them the luxury of a bye week are they?
— Peter Burns (@PeterBurnsESPN) December 9, 2020
Actually despite Big 10 trying to shut down all of CFB this year, they will likely be rewarded by getting a team into the CFB Playoff.
Perhaps all conferences should just play 6 conference games and change the rules midway through the season when it benefits them. https://t.co/5cfe9VoN50
— Peter Burns (@PeterBurnsESPN) December 9, 2020
I would actually feel bad for Indiana if the Big Ten changes the game qualification for the Championship Game. Yes, Ohio State beat IU in Columbus but to come this far and have the rules change in the final week, well would have to sting…
— Chris Fallica (@chrisfallica) December 6, 2020
Screw you @bigten . @IndianaFootball deserves the Big Ten Conference game. You set a standard and had the schools agree to the rules. Indiana had met the standards and prerequisites, Ohio State did not. Changing the rules during the season is a bunch of BS.
— Aaron Schutt (@AaronSchutt) December 9, 2020
This is dumb.
Indiana would have cancelled the OSU game if they knew this.
Big Ten is a joke. https://t.co/OJCkCGcDDz— ISU Recruit Highlights (@Cylights) December 9, 2020
How are sports fans so ignorant. All the people saying OSU beat Indiana appear to not understand rules. Everyone, including OSU agreed to rules before the season started. They did NOT get the winner they hoped for, and now they change the rules. Nice.
— D Davis (@nolafan76) December 9, 2020
I think the big 10 did make the right decision to change there rules AGAIN. But man I’m curious as heck to know if they Wld have done it if Indiana and Ohio State were in reverse roles. 🤔
— David Pollack (@davidpollack47) December 9, 2020
Sorry Indiana, rules are rules.
Sorry Notre Dame, rules are rules.
