The Padres made the offseason’s first major splash by trading for Rays left-hander Blake Snell, a source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand. The Rays will get four prospects in return, including left-hander Luis Patiño, San Diego’s No. 3 prospect. According to MLB Network insider Ken Rosenthal, the other three prospects are Francisco Mejía, Blake Hunt and Cole Wilcox. The clubs have not confirmed the deal, which is pending physicals.

Snell won the 2018 AL Cy Young Award and spent his first five seasons in the Majors with Tampa Bay.
