The Washington Football Team waived former Ohio State QB Dwayne Haskins on Monday after ineffective play and a couple of off-the-field incidents.
Now, the former first-round pick is looking for a new team, and is taking plenty of criticism in the media.
On Monday Night Countdown on ESPN, analyst Booger McFarland spoke about Haskins and many other Black players not treating the NFL like a business, instead choosing to focus on their personal brands:
I found this opinion by Booger McFarland in regards to Dwayne Haskins to be really wild. pic.twitter.com/dQsrVygUS7

Needless to say, it was a divisive speech, and many called him out for it. Here’s what McFarland had to say in his defense:
It ain’t wild fam its reality

Still, many on Twitter were quick to point out that it was unfair of Booger to generalize the way he did. Here’s a look at some of the Twitter reaction:
Booger, Johnny Manziel on line one, wants a word.
What a dumb take. https://t.co/BL3EVVCYNF

Booger…what are you doing https://t.co/b6hpx5Q8qF

Is Booger McFarland serious? Young Black Americans come in not taking it serious??? Wow!!!!
ANY YOUNG PLAYER whose been giving millions of dollars will act out. Haskins didn’t act tho!
Haskins took it serious! The Washington coaches wanted another QB, point blank! https://t.co/VCF9DgRkem

Did Booger actually say that and then double down on it?? pic.twitter.com/jLFXjEarNT

Is building your brand also not a business move? This is such a trash take by Booger https://t.co/aGLpBZht6f

Booger McFarland was terrible for basically saying it’s mostly black qbs. Their are a lot of black qbs thriving in the league. So many white qbs have fallen short of prominence, you don’t see white tv reporters throwing them under the bus like that.

A grown man who allows people to call him Booger. What did y’all expect?

Come on Booger https://t.co/kUZS7SKTpA

Booger ain’t completely wrong. I think Booger’s frustration comes from the lack of opportunity the black QB gets or the stereotype that follows them. And Haskins ain’t help that. Same reason Deion came out and said “Don’t judge Justin Fields off of what Haskins has done”. My $.02 https://t.co/0hx6J01tUV
