The New York Giants announced two roster updates Thursday.
Running back Devonta Freeman has been waived.
Freeman was signed after Saquon Barkley suffered his season-ending ACL injury. Freeman spent six seasons with the Atlanta Falcons before joining the Giants. He is a two-time Pro Bowler but did not find much success in New York, rushing for just 172 yards and one touchdown through five games.
He was placed on IR after suffering ankle and hamstring injuries in November. He last played in the Giants’ Week 7 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Wide receiver David Sills has been signed with a renegotiated contract. Sills was activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list but remains on Injured Reserve.
Sills was set to become an exclusive rights free agent. He appeared poised to be an active member of the Giants offense after a strong summer, but a broken foot injury landed him on IR. He is getting another shot.
While at West Virginia, Sills recorded 132 receptions for 2,097 yards and 35 touchdowns.
