Robert Saleh is first finalist for Jets head coaching job – New York Post

The Jets have zeroed in on their first finalist.

The team is bringing in 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh for a second interview on Tuesday, according to the NFL Network. The Jets spoke with Saleh virtually on Friday. Now, he will meet with Jets brass in person in Florham Park as the team narrows its search.

The Jets are known to have interviewed nine candidates so far. They are now entering the next phase where they will bring in a few finalists for in-person meetings. They can’t do in-person interviews with anyone still in the playoffs: Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, Rams defensive coordinator Brandon Staley, Saints secondary coach Aaron Glenn and Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy are all candidates with games this weekend.

Saleh, 41, is a popular coach in this hiring cycle. He has interviewed with the Lions, Jaguars, Falcons and Chargers in addition to the Jets. He is viewed by some as a top candidate in Detroit.
