Capcom will be hosting the Resident Evil Showcase later this week, and fans of the horror franchise have only gone and got their knickers in a twist over the prospect of the three classic PlayStation 1 games being ported to modern consoles. This all stems from a countdown over on the franchise’s Twitter account, which has begun marking each day in the lead-up to the event with a look back at every mainline title. Well, all except Resident Evil 0. Thanks to some interesting differentiators between the original games and the videos Capcom have posted to Twitter though, some fans reckon we’re about to get ports of the original PS1 versions of Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.
Every post so far has focused on the inventory screens, and eagle-eyed Twitter users are picking up on changes between the games launched in the 1990s and what Capcom is posting to its social media channel. For example, the video from Resident Evil 3: Nemesis below features a much longer inventory section as well as the 25th-anniversary badge in the bottom-right corner.
Due to the way Capcom had gone about counting down to the upcoming Resident Evil Showcase, supporters thought the developer would maybe announce ports for the three classic games. They encountered a bit of a roadblock yesterday, however, as the countdown continued with Resident Evil 4. The general line of thinking now is simply that Capcom is counting down to the digital event by looking back at every mainline release. It would correctly line up with a Resident Evil Village reveal this Thursday, after all. As cool as such a release would be on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, we very much doubt this will actually come to fruition.
