Full rosters released for 2021 Reese’s Senior Bowl – AL.com

The full rosters are out for the 2021 Reese’s Senior Bowl, which takes place Saturday at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile.

There are 134 players confirmed for this year’s game, about 25 more than in past Senior Bowls. Due to the NFL’s COVID-19 protocols, players who pull out of the game due to illness or injury cannot be replaced.

Players are divided into “American” and “National” teams, also a departure from the “North vs. South” format in the past. The Carolina Panthers’ staff is coaching the American team, while the Miami Dolphins are coaching the National.

Most of the players with state and local ties are clustered on the American team, including Alabama quarterback Mac Jones, offensive linemen Alex Leatherwood, Deonte Brown and Landon Dickerson, long-snapper Thomas Fletcher, Auburn linebacker KJ Britt, UAB wide receiver Austin Watkins and linebacker Jordan Smith, South Alabama linebacker Riley Cole, Florida wide receiver Kadarius Toney (a Blount High School graduate) and Central Florida defensive back Aaron Robinson (an Alabama transfer). Dickerson will not play due to a knee injury suffered in the Rose Bowl vs. Notre Dame.

Top names on the National team include Alabama running back Najee Harris and Michigan wide receiver Nico Collins (a Clay-Chalkville graduate). Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith — the Heisman Trophy winner — and Ohio State running back Trey Sermon are also on the National roster, though neither will play due to injury.

One big name pulled out of the game as of Monday, as Florida quarterback Kyle Trask is no longer listed on the roster. Dane Brugler of The Athletic is reporting that Trask is dealing with an ankle injury.

Jones will be joined at quarterback on the American team by Kellen Mond of Texas A&M and Jamie Newman, a Wake Forest transfer who was briefly on the team at Georgia. Quarterbacks for the National team are Feleipe Franks of Arkansas, Sam Ehlinger of Texas and Ian Book of Notre Dame.

Practices will take place Tuesday-Thursday at Hancock Whitney Stadium, though those workouts are closed to the public due to COVID restrictions (ESPN and NFL Network will provide television coverage). Other fan events such as Meet the Players, the Senior Bowl Summit and Senior Bowl Parade have also been canceled this year.

Kickoff for the 71st Senior Bowl is set for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Hancock Whitney Stadium. The game will be televised live by NFL Network.
