Syracuse-Louisville men’s basketball postponed due to positive coronavirus test – syracuse.com

Syracuse, N.Y. — The Syracuse-Louisville men’s basketball game that was scheduled to be played on Wednesday night has been postponed due to a positive coronavirus test and contact tracing within the Louisville program.

The Cardinals were scheduled to face the Orange at 7 p.m. in the Carrier Dome on Wednesday in a game that would have given SU a chance to improve its status on the NCAA Tournament bubble.

It would have been an opportunity for Syracuse to pick up a win considered a Quadrant 2 victory by the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee. Right now, the Orange (10-5, 4-4) have just two wins considered Quadrant 1 or 2 victories.

There are no obvious openings in the current schedules that would allow the teams to make up the game, although the ACC could do some schedule shifting or another cancellation could provide an opening. Syracuse is currently scheduled to play at Louisville on Feb. 17.

The Cardinals hosted Georgia Tech on Monday, earning a 74-58 win. Syracuse last played on Saturday, earning a 76-73 home victory over North Carolina State.

Louisville Senior Associate Athletic Director Kenny Klein said Louisville is currently in Syracuse and is looking to return home Wednesday. The team is not considering staying in Syracuse to see if the game could be played Thursday. He said the Cardinals have tested every day this week, with every test returning negative until the latest batch.

Louisville is looking to find a way to allow the member of its program to return to Louisville safely. Klein said the positive test came from a test that was taken in Louisville but did not return a result until after the Cardinals had arrived in Syracuse.

The next game Syracuse is scheduled to play is now on Saturday, when the Orange is scheduled to visit Clemson. The Tigers beat North Carolina at home, 63-50, on Monday night. That will be a Quadrant 1 opportunity for the Orange.
