Rumors about what Eagles would receive from Bears in Carson Wentz trade – Bleeding Green Nation

So, we’re hearing that the Philadelphia Eagles are “expected to trade Carson Wentz in the coming days.” But what exactly are the Birds going to get for him?

That much isn’t perfectly clear just yet. There are some rumors about what a potential Wentz trade package could look like, though. And specifically when it comes to the Chicago Bears.

On Saturday morning, Windy City Gridiron contributor Brandon Robinson talked about the Eagles getting something like a 2021 first-round pick (No. 20), a 2022 third-round pick, and Nick Foles in exchange for Wentz.

But then Tarik Cohen seemed to deny he’s going anywhere!

So, who knows what’s truly going on here.

For discussion’s sake, let’s say the Eagles are trading Wentz and a pick for Cohen, Nick Foles, and a first-round pick. How do you feel about that offer?

The first thought that jumps to my mind is: what is that pick that Eagles are sending back to Chicago? I saw something about how Philly might be dealing their 2021 second-round selection to the Bears, essentially moving the Eagles up from No. 37 to No. 20. If that’s true, that value is only worth the equivalent of a late second-round pick. Not an ideal return for Wentz. But, hey, maybe that’s not the scenario the Eagles would be in. Maybe they won’t have to return a pick that high.

Cohen is an interesting inclusion in a package for Wentz. Trading him causes the Bears, who are already currently $10 million over the cap, to lose $2 million in cap space. From the Eagles’ standpoint, it’s not hard to see why they’d have interest in him. Cohen is probably the player the Eagles wanted when they instead had to settle for Donnel Pumphrey in the 2017 NFL Draft. The 25-year-old profiles as an offensive role player in the Darren Sproles mold and he can also return punts. Having worked with Nyheim Hines on the Colts, Nick Sirianni probably wouldn’t mind having a similar player in that mold in Philly and Cohen fits the bill. He’s signed through 2023.

We already wrote some thoughts about a potential Foles return on Saturday. The short of it is that there are reasons reacquiring him both does and doesn’t make sense.

Again, it’s not like these terms have been officially finalized just yet. And perhaps it’s not even the Bears who end up trading for Wentz, although I do think that’s likely. I guess it won’t be too long before we see what happens. In the meantime, we’re left to talk about what could take place.
