Defense may indeed STILL win championships, but you aren’t winning anything in today’s NFL without good quarterback play – just ask Bruce Arians and Tom Brady…
With the NFC East up for grabs for what seems to be the foreseeable future, Washington needs to strike while the iron is hot, and take complete advantage. That means securing a quarterback of the future, while still staying competitive in the present.
Below is my post Super Bowl mock draft, which includes a trade into the top 10 so the Football Team can get their guy under center!
Before jumping in to the nitty-gritty, I want to share the process I used for this mock draft. I used simulations from both Pro Football Network’s and The Draft Network’s mock on-line simulators. I ran scenarios multiple times, including proposed trades, to come up with the formula below.
I will show you the picks leading up to ours that helped formulate my mock draft.
Pick #1(Jaguars): Trevor Lawrence QB Clemson
Pick #2(Jets): Justin Fields QB Ohio St.
Pick #3(Dolphins): Penei Sewell OT Oregon
Pick #4(Falcons): Zach Wilson QB BYU
Pick #5(Bengals): Ja’Marr Chase WR LSU
Pick #6(Eagles): DeVonta Smith WR Alabama
Trade:
The Washington Football Team and Detroit Lions agree to a trade.
Washington Receives – Pick #7
Detroit Receives – Pick #19, Pick #51, 2022 1st
Washington Football Team 2021 Draft:
Round 1(pick #7): Trey Lance QB North Dakota State
– Ron Rivera gets his quarterback, and a building block for the future. In Lance, Ron and company see a little bit of Cam Newton, with the size, running ability and strong arm. He may need some time to develop, so a veteran presence in the starting lineup may be needed, but the upside is huge for this young signal caller.
Round 3(pick #74): Brevin Jordan TE Miami
– Jordan is a mismatch threat wherever he lines up on offense. He’s sturdy enough to play in-line and slow down(not handle) an EDGE defender, but he’s best when in the “move” position where he can create mismatches against defenders in the passing game.
Round 3(pick #82): Jabril Cox LB LSU
– Cox is an uber-athletic linebacker who can play sideline-to-sideline and doesn’t need to come off the field in sub packages. He’ll fit best as a “chase” WILL backer.
Round 4(pick #118): James Hudson OT Cinn.
– Hudson is a raw offensive tackle prospect with huge upside. He’s scheme versatile, and can line up on either the left or right side.
Round 5(Pick #150): Damar Hamlin S Pitt.
– Despite not have necessary bulk for the safety position, Hamlin isn’t afraid to mix it up in the run game. He shows good instincts as a deep safety, but needs to trust his reads a bit better.
Round 7(pick #211): Justin Hilliard LB Ohio St.
– Hilliard should be an immediate contributor on special teams, and someone who has potential to contribute down the road.
Round 7(pick #243): Tommy Kraemer IOL Notre Dame
– Kraemer has nice size and good work ethic. He’s not an athletic specimen, but has the chance to stick around due to solid fundamentals.
