CLEVELAND, Ohio — Ravens tackle Orlando Brown Jr. declared earlier this offseason that he is a left tackle. But he has been the right tackle in Baltimore because of the play of Ronnie Stanley.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Wednesday that Brown wants to be traded so that he can get a chance to play left tackle.
Brown has started 42 regular-season games since being drafted in the third round in 2018. He slid over to left tackle when Stanley went down with a season-ending ankle injury on Nov. 1.
Stanley signed a five-year contract extension worth almost $100 million, basically locking him into left tackle for the foreseeable future.
Texans president Jamey Rootes reportedly resigns
The dysfunction going on in the Texans organization looks like it isn’t going away any time soon. On Wednesday morning, team president Jamey Rootes resigned from his job. Rootes had been with the organization for more than 20 years on the business side.
Pro Football Talk reported that part of Rootes’ decision to resign came from the team not hiring the general manager candidate recommended by the team’s search committee.
Much of the blame for the problems with the team has been centered around Jack Easterby, a former chaplain for the Chiefs who is now the executive vice president of football operations for the Texans.
ESPN’s Sarah Barshop noted that last week, the Texans fired their director of football administration, their equipment manager and their vice president of football operations.
All this is going on while Deshaun Watson has reportedly requested a trade from Houston. New Texans general manager Nick Caserio said in late January the team has “zero interest” in trading Watson.
Taylor Heinicke gets two-year extension with Washington
Washington got a surprisingly solid playoff performance from Taylor Heinicke in a 31-23 wild card loss to the eventual Super Bowl champion Buccaneers.
The team rewarded him by re-signing him to a new deal on Wednesday.
Ian Rapoport reported that the extension was for two years and $8.75 million, along with incentives based on how many games he starts.
Heinicke only had one career start before the playoff game. But he played well, throwing for 306 yards and a touchdown.
Washington started three other quarterbacks in 2020. Dwayne Haskins was the Week 1 starter, but he was released later in the season. Kyle Allen and Alex Smith suffered injuries as the season wore on.
Buccaneers host boat parade for Super Bowl champions
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Buccaneers had to find a unique way to celebrate the team’s Super Bowl victory.
They did so by taking part in a boat parade on Wednesday.
Fans could attend the parade on boats or along Tampa’s Riverwalk if they wore masks and practiced social distancing.
Tom Brady showed up to the parade in a boat that cost $2 million.
Brady was having plenty of fun on the parade as well, including tossing the Lombardi Trophy over to another boat, as you can see in the tweets below.
