The Izanagi’s Burden is already one of the weirdest-looking Exotics in Destiny 2. It’s a sniper rifle that looks like a cross between a sword and an IUD. But with Season of the Chosen, Bungie added an Exotic ornament that turns Izanagi’s Burden into Cloud’s Strife’s infamous Buster Sword from Final Fantasy 7 — or at least something similar.
Bungie has done some silly stuff like this in the past. We’ve gotten emotes that let Guardians fuse like Dragon Ball Z, and a miniature Sparrow that looks more like a Scooty Puff Jr. from Futurama than a Guardian’s space motorcycle. But the Buster Sword Izanagi’s Burden (called the Worldshaper Ornament) had me cry-laughing the first time I saw it.
In the image above, you can see the barrel replaced with a dark grey broadsword. The scope sits just above a chain connecting the blade to the hilt, which perfectly matches Final Fantasy’s unique zipper/chain fashion. It doesn’t quite have the Buster Sword’s box-cutter shape, but the chain makes the ornament a pretty clear homage in my opinion.
The Izanagi’s Burden is a powerful sniper that lets Guardians smoosh four bullets into one overpowered super bullet. It’s commonly used in some of Destiny 2’s hardest activities. But now Guardians can equip the new Buster Sword skin to make this already weird gun even weirder.
It rules, and it’s simultaneously one of the funniest and coolest Exotic ornaments Bungie’s ever made for a weapon. It’s currently in the game’s Eververse store for the real-money currency, Silver. It’ll runs players 700 Silver, or about $6.99 in real people money. But it’s possible Bungie could sell the ornament for the game’s freemium currency, Bright Dust, later in the season.
