About a week ago, it was reported that the New York Mets and Chicago Cubs had resumed talks regarding third baseman Kris Bryant.
However, while speaking with reporters this afternoon, Chicago Cubs President of Baseball Operations Jed Hoyer shut down those rumors. According to Jordan Bastian of MLB.com, Hoyer said that the Cubs are not currently engaged in any trade talks and haven’t been for a while now.
When asked specifically about the Bryant to the Mets rumors, Hoyer said, “we were in involved in a lot of rumors this year, some were just completely inaccurate, some were just exaggerated.”
“Certainly teams called us and we had discussions. But as far as active discussions, right now things are quiet. And like I said, they have been for some time,” he added.
If the Mets are indeed looking to upgrade at the hot corner via the trade market, it appears as though you can scratch Bryant off the list of potential candidates.
