Arkansas-Texas A&M game postponed – 247Sports

The Arkansas at Texas A&M men’s basketball game of February 20 has been postponed due to a combination of positive tests, contact tracing and subsequent quarantining of individuals within the Texas A&M basketball program, consistent with Southeastern Conference COVID-19 management requirements. A make-up date has not been determined at this time.

The press release from the University of Arkansas and SEC confirms earlier reporting by Jeff Borzello that the game between the Razorbacks and Aggies would not be played as scheduled.

This marks the second game with Texas A&M that has been postponed this season for the Razorbacks. The first was a home matchup in Fayetteville that was originally scheduled for February 6. The Aggies have not played since the SEC/Big 12 Challenge versus Kansas State on January 30. The Razorbacks previously lost a non-conference game at Tulsa due to COVID-related issues with the Golden Hurricane.

There is a week built in for potential makeup games between the end of the regular season on March 2 and the beginning of the SEC Tournament in Nashville (Tenn.) on March 10, but with postponements piling up it is unclear as to whether or not one, or both, games are able to be played.

Arkansas coach Eric Musselman has been a strong proponent of finding ways to get as many games in as possible for the student-athletes, and he announced via his Twitter that he was working with Southeastern Conference officials to see if the Razorbacks could potentially add a non-conference game to the schedule for the weekend even though they have already reached their maximum allotment of non-league games.

“Found out while boarding the bus to travel to College Station today that our game tomorrow was cancelled,” said Musselman. “Our players are devastated that they do not get to compete. We are working with the league to see if we can add a non-conference game.”

For the time being, Arkansas is now scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, February 24 when they host Alabama in Fayetteville (Ark.). Tip-off from Bud Walton Arena is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. (CST), and the game is scheduled to be televised on ESPN2 or ESPNU.
