Texans’ reporter: Broncos won’t acquire Deshaun Watson – Arrowhead Pride

The Kansas City Chiefs’ AFC West rival Denver Broncos were listed as the betting favorites to land disgruntled Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson as of Friday morning, according to our SB Nation sister site, Mile High Report.

But Texans beat writer John McClain joined Denver-based radio station KOA on Thursday, and he completely refuted the idea. McClain has covered the NFL for the Houston Chronicle for 45 years.

“First of all, I’ll guarantee you, the Broncos ain’t getting Deshaun Watson,” McClain pointedly told Big Al and JoJo. “If they were going to trade him — which they stated they are not going to trade him, and he’s never said anything publicly. We don’t have a clue what Watson is really upset about because he hasn’t given any indication. It’s all come from anonymous sources close to him, so he’s going to be in it for the long haul.”

McClain went on to suggest that once Watson meets with former Chiefs wide receivers coach and now-Texans head coach David Culley and new general manager Nick Caserio, perhaps they might find peace.

If Watson will only play for a team other than the Texans, McClain disagrees with the idea that Denver would be first on the list.

“If they trade him, trade talks would have to start with the Jets because the Jets are the only team that could guarantee them the second-best quarterback prospect in the draft, plus a whole lot more. Plus, they have four number ones in the next two years, and it would take at least four number ones to get Deshaun Watson.”

Local Missouri product Drew Lock is the Broncos’ current quarterback. He has an 8-10 career record. The Texans released defensive end JJ Watt, who might just consider Kansas City a landing spot, last week.
