It’s about time to get shifty
Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition players may get their hands on the new V-Shift mechanic for the first time as early as later tonight, and now we can all see exactly how it works.
Capcom has now released SF5’s in-game tutorial for V-Shift and V-Shift Break which fully breaks down the new mechanic including how much damage it does and what happens if it’s blocked.
As was previously revealed, both V-Shift and V-Shift Break are performed by pressing heavy punch and medium kick together while a player has at least one stock of V-Gauge available.
What is new, however, is that this confirms that V-Shift Break attacks will be safe on block, on top of their extended range, so it seems like a fair trade off for only doing recoverable damage.
Speaking of damage, we also get to see an example combo follow-up to the V-Shift, which does do regular damage.
Not only that, but I tested it to see if attacks after the dodge will be immediately scaled down like V-Trigger activations. I can confidentially report though that the combo appears to do its normal, unscaled damage.
The Break attack looks to do a comparable amount of damage compared to V-Reversals unsurprisingly as well.
V-Shift will be coming to SF5 in the Season 5 update which will officially be live by tomorrow though servers are going down for maintenance today starting at 8 p.m. PT.
