No more Gougi Decks it seems
Fighting EX Layer may have started as an “April Fool’s joke,” but it’s continued to evolve over these past few years with its next incarnation now known to the world.
Arika announced during the Japan Fighting Game Publisher Roundtable that Fighting EX Layer: Another Dash will be coming to the Nintendo Switch later this year, which looks to re-work a lot of the game’s core systems.
Gougi Decks are now completely gone from the match experience and are now replaced with a number of new EX moves / systems to give every character some extra juice when they have meter.
EX-Dash, EX-Arrow and EX-Illusion are ways to give players more defensive and offensive options though that’s not all that is changing. Battle balance adjustments are also coming to some characters / moves.
Some of these changes look to be quite similar to what Arika previously showed in the April Fool’s Day beta version though there’s no word of Another Dash coming to other platforms right now.
One thing the new port will not feature at launch, however, is the rollback netcode the other versions received and will instead be using what they’re calling backstep interrupt, which looks to hide input delay in variable frames.
If all goes well, however, Arika is hoping to combine the two forms of netcode together for the “best of both worlds.”
More information about Another Dash is coming on April 1 because of course it is. Maybe we’ll see more about that Prayer to Death game they teased last year too.
