Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2, launching in June, is the latest volley in the first-person shooter sub-sub-sub-genre of stealth/comically gory slow-mo death popularized by CI Games and Rebellion’s rival Sniper Elite franchise.
In fact, this first look at gameplay is so brutal, we can’t even embed the sucker.
I’m gonna offer a content warning, for blood, brain tissue, and numerous skullcaps flying like frisbees. A news release from CI Games touts “extreme-range sniping of targets over 1,000 meters away,” but there’s plenty more traditional gunplay and melee attacking, as the user makes their way to the perfect perch for the level’s climactic shot.
Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 is set in “modern day Middle East,” though from the gadgets available and the evil-Quarian getup the player character is wearing, I’d say near-future is also an applicable term. Players will plan their kills on five different sandbox maps, and will face “more intelligent adversaries with improved tactics.”
The game’s replayable-mission structure follows 2019’s Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts, which pulled back from the open-world ambitions of the poorly received Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 of 2017. CI Games promised this one will utilize new consoles’ capabilities and loading times to deliver “the best looking Sniper Ghost Warrior game thus far.” So those NPCs’ temporal, parietal, and occipital bones will scatter in 4K resolution as well as a fine red mist.
Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 launches June 4 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
