Believe it or not, but former Chicago Bears backup quarterback Chase Daniel is becoming something of a hot commodity as the 2021 NFL free agency period inches closer to kicking off.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, teams are calling the Lions about a potential trade for Daniel, who’s served as one of the league’s most respected backups since his career began in 2010.
Lions have had trade discussions with other teams regarding their backup QB Chase Daniel, per sources. Daniel has been considered an ideal mentor for young QBs, something he learned from Drew Brees during their time together in New Orleans.

If we try to piece the puzzle together here, it’s reasonable to assume teams like the Jaguars and Jets, both of whom are expected to draft a quarterback in the first round, could be among the cluster of organizations inquiring about Daniel. The Eagles, a team Daniel spent the 2016 season with, might be interested in a reunion too. Jalen Hurts is entering just his second season and with the sixth overall pick potentially being a quarterback, Philadelphia needs a veteran in the locker room who can help the young guys along.
Daniel’s career has been nothing short of remarkable. He’s thrown for 1,694 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven touchdowns — for his entire career — yet has made more than $38 million in career earnings.
Kudos to Daniel for beating the system.
