ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Broncos have reportedly added a veteran cornerback to their defensive backfield.
According to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Broncos have agreed to terms on a three-year deal with cornerback Ronald Darby.
The move cannot be made official until free agency begins at 2 p.m. MT on Wednesday, March 17.
A former second-round draft pick by the Bills in 2015, Darby spent the 2020 season with the Washington Football Team. During his lone season in Washington, he started all 16 games and recorded 16 passes defensed and 55 tackles for the NFC East champions. His 16 passes defensed ranked fifth in the league in 2020, and Washington’s defense ranked second against the pass.
Prior to arriving in Washington, the 5-foot-11, 193-pound cornerback spent 2017-2019 with the Eagles, where he started 27 of a possible 48 games over three seasons. He was a part-time starter in 2017 on the team’s Super Bowl championship squad. Darby recorded six total interceptions and 32 passes defensed during his time with the Eagles.
Darby began his career in Buffalo, where he started 29 games during his first two seasons in the league and recorded two interceptions and 33 passes defensed. After a strong rookie campaign in 2015, he was named to the NFL’s All-Rookie Team.
Darby would join Bryce Callahan and Michael Ojemudia among some of the top options in Denver’s cornerback corps.
Darby is the first player from another team to be linked to the Broncos during the NFL’s legal tampering period, which began Monday at 10 a.m. MT.
Earlier Monday, the Broncos agreed to terms with defensive lineman Shelby Harris on a new three-year deal.
