San Francisco 49ers left tackle Trent Williams is probably the best free agent on the open market, though there have not been many rumblings regarding his potential suitors.
Other than early whispers that the Kansas City Chiefs and Chicago Bears were among interested teams, things have been oddly quiet. It sounds like there’s a good reason for that.
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported on Tuesday that Williams, a first-time free agent, is “taking his time” while vacationing in Mexico and “enjoying every second of it.”
Garafolo added, “From what I am told he was actually in Mexico the last couple of days on vacation. And coming back, I mean, I don’t know, did free agency catch Trent by surprise? Or was he always planning on kind of taking his time and mulling over some things while in the sun?”
Garafolo also said that the 49ers “believe they have a strong offer on the table” for the 32-year-old left tackle.
It’s unclear if Williams is still on vacation or just got back, but either way, don’t hold your breath if you wanted an answer on his next destination soon.
“Trent Williams is still going to continue to take his time,” Garafolo said. “Still might be a little bit before we get an answer on Trent Williams whether he goes back to San Francisco or heads elsewhere.”
