Have you ever been playing a video game and thought to yourself, “Boy, do I wish I could stop shooting this enemy in the face and instead appreciate my character’s skin on a nearly microscopic level”? Well, good news, Buffalo Bill. Atomic Heart, the open world first-person shooter that looks like Soviet BioShock, has you covered.
At least, that’s the case when it comes to the game’s photo mode. In the trailer above, you can see the real-time camera luxuriate over one character’s model so deeply that you can make out each individual piece of stubble. Hell, you can even examine the model’s oily skin. It’s like we’re about to pop some blackheads in here. As strange as it might sound, I’m enjoying the ways video games are depicting realistic bodily functions, whether it’s clogged pores in this particular case or perhaps more convincing sweat beads.
There’s also a bit of story in this trailer, too. Apparently, the USSR is about to make a big tech leap that will somehow allow them to discard the evils of capitalism. Everyone is about to get an ominous vaccination, the radio announcer declares, as the trailer reveals that while you were busy looking up that character’s nose, pandemonium has broken loose.
According to the game’s spiffy new website, the machines of this world have rebelled against humanity. Your job is to eliminate the new threat before the classified info of that severe oopsie is revealed to the wider world.
Atomic Heart is being developed for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC. No release date has been set.
