The Golden State Warriors lost to the Boston Celtics on Saturday night, though their mood afterwards didn’t indicate a team in distress. Which makes sense: The Dubs had won four in a row before Boston’s comeback victory, largely fueled by an otherworldly performance from Jayson Tatum.
After Tatum dropped 44 points, he got plenty of praise from Golden State stars Steph Curry (who had 47 points himself) and Draymond Green. The latter player couldn’t let his compliments stand without throwing in a sandwich dis.
“Incredible [performance],” he said. “Thought it was a big boy performance by him, especially missing Jaylen Brown. He stepped up and put those guys on his back. My sub is still better though.”
And with that, Green stood up and walked away. The world’s silliest mic drop, if you will.
Green was referencing his Subway sandwich rivalry with Tatum, which, if you’ve watched more than a few NBA games this year, you’ve likely seen cringe commercials for over and over and over and over again.
The commercials feature Green and Tatum trading barbs about their respective Subway sandwiches while also looking like they’re being held hostage. Neither is giving their all acting-wise, but now that Green is stretching his endorsement beyond the TV advertisements and into the real-world, his interest in actually eating a Subway sandwich is, like, 10% more believable.
There are no winners in this battle, but Tatum is currently the Subway sandwich loser, at least until he eats a foot-long at a press conference.
