With the likelihood of at least three, maybe four quarterbacks going in the first six picks, the Detroit Lions are in a great position to land either one of the remaining top QB prospects, the top offensive tackle, or one of the many elite receiving prospects in the draft.
It’s a good year to need a pass catcher with top talents like Kyle Pitts, Ja’Marr Chase, Jaylen Waddle and DeVonta Smith potentially available. There is also a possibility that either Justin Fields or Mac Jones is on the board if the Lions decide to take a QB, and it’s never a bad option to beef up the offensive line and go with an elite OT talent like Penei Sewell.
If the Lions were looking more toward the defensive side of the ball with the seventh pick, then that’s where things get a bit unlucky for them. There aren’t really any elite edge rushing prospects worthy of a top-seven selection and the only name mocked to the Lions in the first round on defense is linebacker Micah Parsons.

What is the worst case scenario for the Lions in the first round?
My answer: My worst case is really any scenario where the Lions take Micah Parsons at No. 7. I’m not a big fan of taking a linebacker that high in the draft because I don’t really believe it to be one of the premium positions in the NFL. Sure, the Lions have constantly had terrible linebackers and it would be nice to have an elite talent there, but not in that spot.
I would much rather take any of the top WRs, including Pitts, or an OT like Sewell. Taking Parsons would be the one scenario that I just couldn’t get behind as a Lions fan.
