The Seattle Seahawks are bringing back a familiar face, as Bob Condotta reports that Pierre Desir is signing with Seattle on a 1-year deal. The financial terms of the contract have yet to be released.
Desir started his 2020 season in New Jersey, playing for the Jets before being waived in November. He made his way to Baltimore by way of the practice squad, where he bounced on and off of the active roster throughout December, including playing in the divisional playoff game against the Bills. He finished the season with three interceptions and eight passes defensed. A 4th round pick by the Cleveland Browns in the 2014 draft, he also started games for the Chargers before spending three consecutive seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, where he collected five interceptions and defended 26 passes between 2017 and 2019.
Seahawks fans may remember Pierre from his brief stay with the team during the 2016 season, where he spent the latter half of the year on Seattle’s practice squad after being released by the Chargers. He remained with the team through the 2017 preseason prior to being waived in September during the final roster cuts. Desir is tall, lengthy, and physically looks the part of a Seattle corner. Per PFF, 2020 was a down season for him in pass defense, but he has consistently graded above average in defending the run and is a willing tackler.
By signing Pierre Desir, the Seahawks have now added as many corners as they have lost in free agency, the other being Ahkello Witherspoon. He is unlikely to be a direct replacement for either the departed Shaquill Griffin or Quinton Dunbar, but will be battling to add depth to a DB group that will look much different this season than it did in 2020.
