Take a look inside the Patriots’ war room for the Mac Jones draft pick – Pats Pulpit

The New England Patriots have never drafted a quarterback in the first round under head coach/general manager Bill Belichick. That all changed this Thursday, with the team bringing in Alabama QB Mac Jones with the 15th overall pick.

The Patriots shortly thereafter released a video of the team’s war room before and after the selection of Jones. It does not offer any groundbreaking information, but did capture Belichick conferring with his three most trusted talent evaluators before the pick was made official: assistant director of player personnel Dave Ziegler, national scout Matt Groh, and scouting consultant Eliot Wolf.

The four men were discussing the pick before it was made, which is further proof that Ziegler, Groh and Wolf have played a big role within the operation this spring.

“Dave Ziegler, Eliot Wolf and Matt Groh have really carried the ball on this,” Belichick said about the three during his annual pre-draft media conference call earlier this month.

“They’ve done a ton of work and their respective staffs that they oversee as well. In particular, those three guys have really done a tremendous amount work, evaluation, organization and have done a great job putting things together. It’s been great to spend a lot of time with them and go through the process.”
