Destiny 2’s highly anticipated support for cross-play was accidentally set live Tuesday when Bungie launched Season of the Splicer. While Bungie’s flagship looter had a series of issues yesterday due to a Honeydew error, players quickly realized that cross-play was working between certain platforms, letting players on Windows PC and Xbox or PC and Stadia play Crucible matches together or group up for a Strike. We haven’t seen any reports of cross-play working on a PlayStation platform yet.
Bungie officially announced cross-play last year when it revealed Beyond Light. Assistant game director Joe Blackburn announced the feature will be included with Destiny 2 season 15, which Bungie will launch this fall. Season of the Splicer, season 14, is a full three months early for the new feature to appear in game.
We are seeing reports that some players are able to get a sneak peek at Crossplay.
This isn’t meant to be live yet and is not representative of the full experience. We will be implementing a fix to remove public access later this week, but in the meantime feel free to partake. https://t.co/CKOfg1Fpq6

While the feature seems to be working fine for some players, it’s apparently not ready for prime time just yet. On Tuesday night, Bungie community manager Cozmo revealed that the feature’s launch with Season of the Splicer is a bug, and is something the team at Bungie is looking into fixing. However, Cozmo encouraged players to take advantage of the system while it’s available, keeping in mind that it’s still a work in progress so it’s “not representative of the full experience.” Cozmo told players they have until the end of this week to enjoy this unintended cross-play test.
While cross-play will disappear later this week, Blackburn said that there will be some feature testing for cross-play sometime during Season of the Splicer. Bungie will announce those official dates later in the season, but players who just can’t wait to dunk on their friends with a mouse and keyboard can boot up a session for the next few days.
