Anderson shaky but effective in 5-1 win
While Ian Anderson didn’t have his best stuff on Saturday, he still battled and held the Brewers offense completely in check. As it turns out, holding the other team hitless through the first six innings is pretty good as the Braves got a needed series win via a 5-1 win over the Brewers.
Braves activate Guillermo Heredia from injured list, option Johan Camargo
With Cristian Pache hitting the injured list (and really before that given Pache’s issues at the plate) and Ender Inciarte not exactly inspiring confidence, the question of the Braves’ third outfield roster spot has been widely discussed. Now, with Heredia activated from the IL, it appears as though Ender and Heredia will split time out there in the hopes that it will keep them from getting hurt again. Fingers and toes crossed.
Spencer Strider was downright electric in his pro debut for the Braves and Victor Vodnik was (mostly) great for Mississippi as well. On offense, Orlando Arcia continues to be on a heater that has the Dansby haters out in full force on the interwebs and a few familiar faces had strong games as well in the minors.

Dodgers to sign Albert Pujols to major league deal
Well….this was unexpected. First we thought that Tony LaRussa was going to get sentimental and bring Pujols on with the White Sox, but that got quashed quickly. Then there were rumors that the Cardinals were interested. Now, it looks like the Dodgers, who look surprisingly vulnerable, are bringing Pujols in to give them some help against lefties and utilize some of their roster flexibility elsewhere to get Albert playing time. It is…certainly a strategy.
Angels acquire Hunter Strickland from Rays
Meanwhile, Pujols’ old team, the Angels, made a move of their own. Their bullpen has been on the struggle bus of late and they worked a deal with Tampa to acquire Hunter Strickland who has been pretty good for them. Beware, though, trades with the Rays don’t often work out well for the non-Rays teams involved.
