The Yankees are in talks with the Rangers about possibly acquiring outfielder Delino DeShields, according to a report by MLB Network insider Ken Rosenthal. The clubs have not confirmed the discussions.
DeShields would join a Yankees organization that has struggled with injuries in the outfield recently, with Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Hicks and Ryan LaMarre all hitting the injured list in May and Clint Frazier dealing with a neck issue.
DeShields had played the first few weeks of the 2021 Minor League season with Triple-A Round Rock, where he has slashed .412/.500/.706 in 40 plate appearances. DeShields spent the abbreviated 2020 season with Cleveland, but the majority of his Major League experience came with the Rangers from 2015-’19, a span over which he hit .246/.326/.342 with 18 home runs in 539 games.
