Atlanta Braves News: Mike Soroka’s status, replacing Marcell Ozuna and more – Talking Chop

Despite having their series opener against the NL East leading New York Mets rained out, Friday was a rather eventful day for the Atlanta Braves. It began with an unscheduled announcement that ended up not being an announcement at all.

Brian Snitker was a guest on High Heat where he told Chris Russo that Mike Soroka would miss the remainder of the season. Soroka is currently recovering from an Achilles tear that he suffered last season. He recently suffered a setback and had to undergo exploratory surgery. The team had not made an official announcement since Soroka’s second procedure so it was understandable that Snitker’s comments caused a stir.

Shortly after it was announced that Friday’s game was rained out, Snitker walked those comments back saying that he was incorrect.

“I messed up today when I was on a TV show with Mad Dog (Chris Russo). Soroka does have a chance of getting back and I didn’t think he did so that was my fault,” Snitker said. “I created a firestorm with all that. I talked to Mike and there is a chance that he could get back.”

“He’s going to be reevaluated in a couple of weeks, so I guess probably we’re going to know more then,” Snitker added. “I just assumed seeing him riding around on that scooter that he wasn’t going be there. So, I screwed up and not the first and won’t be the last.”

It still seems like a long shot at best that Soroka would be able to return in any capacity this season. Still, he hasn’t been officially ruled out so we will have to wait and see what happens after he is reevaluated in a couple of weeks.

The Braves placed injured outfielder Marcell Ozuna on the 10-day injured list Friday and recalled Johan Camargo to the active roster. Snitker said that Ehire Adrianza will get the first crack in left field, but that he will use all four of his outfielders to try and cover up the loss of Ozuna.
