Once again, Kyle Larson dominated in his No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet.

Cranking out his third win of 2020, Larson won Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Sonoma Raceway. He held off teammate, reigning champion and road-course ace Chase Elliott in overtime, taking the checkered flag by .614 seconds.

Elliott took second, which marked Hendrick Motorsports’ fourth 1-2 finish in a row – tying a NASCAR record set by Carl Kiekhafer Racing in 1956.

Joe Gibbs Racing’s Martin Truex Jr. finished third; he’s the only other driver with three wins this season. Team Penske’s Joey Logano placed fourth, followed by another Joe Gibbs Racing driver in Kyle Busch.

Kurt Busch, Ross Chastain, Denny Hamlin, Alex Bowman and Ryan Blaney completed the top 10 in order.

A caution came out with two laps remaining in regulation to set up the final restart in overtime. Bowman got into the rear of Anthony Alfredo, who then hit and spun Christopher Bell.

That incident came on the first lap of another restart from a wreck between Ryan Preece and Cody Ware with four laps to go.

Overall, there were eight cautions, including the competition caution and stage breaks.

Larson scored his series-best 10th stage win on Lap 20, leading all but two laps from the pole position in the opening segment. He then achieved his 11th stage win on Lap 40. That’s a complete sweep for Larson, who led six times for race-high 57 of the 92 laps.

Up next, the NASCAR Cup Series changes it up a bit. Instead of having its 17th points-paying race, it will head to Texas Motor Speedway for the 2021 NASCAR All-Star Race on Sunday (8 p.m. ET on FS1, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).
