MLB Trade Rumors | TC Zencka: The Yankees bullpen took a beating yesterday, as a pair of southpaws, Zack Britton and Wandy Peralta, were placed on the 10-day injured list. Britton, who was removed from Friday night’s game after feeling pain in his hamstring; although Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that the injury was more a “cramping” than “strain,” according to ESPN’s Marly Rivera, the team has decided to be cautious with their setup man. Peralta, meanwhile, has been dealing with back issues. Albert Abreu and Brooks Kriske were recalled from Triple-A Scranton to take their spots in the bullpen.
Sports Illustrated | Max Goodman: The Athletic’s Jim Bowden recently highlighted 75 players whose names are likely to be on the trade block this July, and he names Miami center fielder Starling Marte as a prime candidate for the Yankees to pursue. A free agent at the end of the season, Marte adds elite defense to above-average pop and good speed that would make him a perfect fit for the Yankees lineup, at least on the baseball field. Other players that Bowden linked to the Yankees were Arizona’s Ketel Marte and Baltimore’s Cedric Mullins.
MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: Speaking of the trade deadline, Brian Cashman said that, although the Yankees are definitively “buyers,” there has been very little movement on the trade market for the moment, a sentiment that Boston chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom agreed with. Cashman attributes this slow market at least in part to the postponed Amateur Draft, which has been moved from June to July for the second straight season.
CBS Sports | Rotowire Staff: In more bad news for the Yankees, Cashman revealed yesterday that, although Corey Kluber has recently extended his throwing distance to 75 feet, the Yankees do not expect him to return to the starting rotation until August — at the earliest. The team appears to be bringing Kluber, who has dealt with shoulder problems in the past, along slowly in his rehab from the subscapularis strain that has sidelined him since the start after his no-hitter back in May.
