Irate PlayStation fans have started a petition to cancel Hideo Kojima’s rumoured Xbox exclusive game, describing it as a “betrayal”. The amusing Change.org page insists that the industry veteran has been “blinded by greed” and must return to the “winning side”, after reports noted that Kojima Productions is on the cusp of signing a deal with Microsoft which would see it leverage the computing giant’s Azure servers to create a cloud-based experience.
“Not everyone has good enough Internet to stream games,” the petition reads. “Not everyone has enough money to buy a new console or build a new PC. Please Kojima, don’t leave us.” Unfortunately for the creator, the page doesn’t seem to be attracting a whole lot of attention: at the time of typing it’s only received around 70 signatures. “I’m signing just to point out how f*cking stupid you all are,” one commenter wrote.
It’s worth remembering that Kojima Productions is a fully independent studio and is free to work with any partners it pleases. Rumour has it that Hideo Kojima had planned to create a game for Stadia, before Google pulled the plug on its first-party projects. As such, it makes sense that he’d take those ideas to Microsoft, who have a similarly capable cloud infrastructure. After all, even Sony has announced a strategic partnership with the Windows giant – it’s all business at the end of the day!
