Notre Dame has landed a big commitment from Naples (Fla.) high school three-star defensive back Devin Moore. The class of 2022 recruit is the latest prospect to pledge to the Fighting Irish.
A 6-2, 175-pounder who can play both cornerback and safety at an extremely high level, Moore chose Notre Dame over an offer list that includes Alabama, Cincinnati, Florida, Miami, Stanford, Auburn, Florida State, Michigan, Virginia Tech and many others across tech country. Moore is ranked as the No. 26 safety in the country and No. 50 prospect in the state of Florida per 247Sports. According to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, he’s the No. 30 talent at his position.
As a junior, Moore turned heads in the defensive backfield. He racked up 24 tackles and 5 interceptions, while returning one for a score.
“He erased whoever he went against,” said Naples high school assistant coach Cliff Greer to Irish Illustrated’s Kevin Sinclair earlier this spring. “These were (receivers) who are going to Florida, going to Auburn. They didn’t catch the ball. At all. (laughs). You almost forget the kid is over there. He didn’t get many picks because they didn’t really throw over there. And when they did, he got interceptions.
“Once he got on the field, it was natural for him. There’s nothing awkward about him,” Greer continued. “He’s just so smooth. It’s funny, he’s faster than you realize because he’s such a long-strider. But when he’s running with these kids that are supposed to be going to all these big-time schools, it’s like, man, he can erase half the field. That’s how talented he is.”
This is a big win for cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens, safeties coach Chris O’Leary and defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman. Notre Dame made him a priority early during his process and all the hard work paid off.
