It was all the back in August of 2020 that we first found out Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition would be getting an entire fifth season of additional DLC content with five new characters, but while the first four were named then, the last one has been a mystery until today.
During their Summer Update stream on TwitchGaming Capcom unveiled the 45th and final character to join Street Fighter 5’s roster: Luke, a brand new character introduced to the series today. Check out his trailer below.
“Street Fighter 5 has been developed to pay homage to the past, but Luke will give us a glimpse into the future,” said Director Nakayama when prepping to reveal the trailer. “He will be expanding the world of Street Fighter.”
“We feel strongly that Luke will be a great addition to the game, and that he has a bright future in the world of Street Fighter,” stated Producer Shuhei Matsumoto.
Luke appears to be a mixed martial arts kind of fighter who may specialize in kickboxing as his main style. Most of the attacks used in his trailer are punches, though he does showcase a rolling kick that looks like it might be an overhead.
Though Capcom did not address any of Luke’s V-System abilities, he does perform a bit of a charge up that appears to upgrade some of his attacks when successfully competed. His next punch after this charge up causes Ryu to bounce off the wall for a longer combo.
He clearly activates on of his Triggers at one point, and appears to gain the ability to send projectile-like sparks from his punches that cross the entire length of the screen.
We’ve rounded up a handful of screen shots so you can appreciate some of the details of the coming character:

Especially with how much the developers have been mentioning and focusing on Street Fighter’s story development through Season 5, we’re inclined to think there are big story-related plans in store for Luke. He may pave the way for the transition into (unannounced) Street Fighter 6, and could potentially be that game’s central protagonist a la Alex in Street Fighter 3, though we don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves.
Luke is scheduled to release some time this November.
