The Sixers’ free agency is finally coming to a conclusion, at least for now. We’ve gotten news on Andre Drummond, Furkan Korkmaz, Georges Niang, and even Rayjon Tucker — but we’ve been patiently awaiting what would happen with Danny Green. We’ve finally gotten that answer on what’s next for Green.
UFA Danny Green (@DGreen_14 ) has agreed to return to the Philadelphia 76ers on a 2-year/$20M deal.
Green shot 40% from 3 this season on 6.3 attempts. Green had 1.3 SPG (t-career best) and 0.8 BPG after playing in 69 of 72 regular season games.

Harrison Sandford, the co-host of Danny Green’s podcast, was the first to break the news and details. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski later confirmed the same deal and specified that there were no options of any kind.
No options on the two-year, $20M deal that will keep Danny Green with the 76ers, his agent Raymond Brothers of @RocNationSports tells ESPN.

While some fans still might be upset about his comments about booing, his return is a very welcomed sight. He was a crucial addition to the Sixers last year, and was a huge reason for their success. His high volume of accurate shooting from the perimeter, along with solid defense, made him a perfect fit in Philly.
This is a very reasonable contract for Green and is quite a bit less than his past deal. Green’s play and fit are valuable, but his contract will also play a big part in any future deals involving the Sixers in terms of matching salary. From an on-the-court perspective and financial flexibility standpoint: this signing is a home-run and plugs the final hole in the roster.
In related news, this might slightly change the Sixers’ financial plan(s). Georges Niang was recently reported to be paid some salary off of their non-taxpayer’s MLE. Bringing Green back on this deal makes them a tax team; which means they’ll now have the taxpayer’s MLE which is worth nearly half of the full one. The Sixers could offer Niang the same salary he signed for on a different exception — the bi-annual. Doing so would allow the Sixers to utilize their full taxpayer’s MLE elsewhere. The only downfall to this would be the fact that it would hard cap the Sixers which could make future trades difficult.
Anyways, welcome back Danny Green. Let’s hope the fanbase can warm up to you again before the fall tip-off.
