A theoretical trade between the Trail Blazers and 76ers involving Ben Simmons has crept in and out of conversations since Philadelphia’s less-than-ideal postseason exit. Simmons, who could be on the move prior to the start of next season, apparently does not have Portland near the top of his list of desirable destinations.
According to NBA reporter Jason Dumas, Simmons is interested in heading to California if he is traded.
“He’s [Simmons] reading the tea leaves like everyone else. He sees Toronto. He sees Portland. Just to be frank, the young socialite he is, he’s not really trying to go to any of those situations. He’s open to the California teams, is what I’ve been told.”
Dumas went on to explain that Simmons is not in contact with the Sixers or his teammates at this time.
Last season, Simmons finished behind only Rudy Gobert in Defensive Player of the Year voting. The former No. 1 pick averaged 14.3 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 6.9 assists in 58 outings in the 2020-21 campaign.
