All Real Madrid fans can think about right now is Kylian Mbappe. Even with the 2021-2022 LaLiga season opener on the horizon this weekend at the Mendizorroza, Mbappe – and not Deportivo Alaves – is the No. 1 topic of discussion within the fanbase. And these discussions have become more heated since word broke that Lionel Messi could make the switch from Barcelona to PSG.
The subsequent optimism regarding an Mbappe deal from Madridistas seems straightforward, then. PSG have already made a boatload of major signings this summer, including former Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos, and adding Messi’s massive wages to the equation would seem to make PSG run even more afoul of financial regulations.
But alas, it’s more complicated than that. See, PSG aren’t exactly scared of UEFA’s weak financial regulations. Even if they were to be punished, a slap on the wrist is worth it if keeping Mbappe in a squad with Messi, Neymar, and countless other stars finally wins the Qatari project a Champions League trophy.
That said, despite the reasons to be wary of PSG selling Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid, there is one hint that the Parisians may relent and take the 120-150 million euros or so instead of keeping the star forward in the final year of his contract.
PSG might have planned a Kylian Mbappe transfer to Real Madrid in their books
According to Juan Branco, speaking on El Transistor, PSG have earmarked 180 million euros worth of transfer sales in their books. To this point of the summer 2021 transfer window, the Ligue 1 giants have made a grand total of seven million euros. Without guaranteeing anything or making any statements beyond that, Branco notes that the only way to account for this discrepancy is to sell Mbappe. No other player could bring PSG that much money.
It remains to be seen if this accounting detail matters, if PSG are at all considering selling Mbappe to keep the finances somewhat balanced, or if the new powerhouse in European football seems to care about any of this at all.

But we can take this nugget of information for what it is. It is an observation. A clue. A hint. A glimmer of hope that maybe, just maybe, PSG can’t have it all. There is still a chance Real Madrid land their dream Galactico of the last two years. Mbappe is worth dreaming for, and Madridistas have not quite given up hope on a deal in 2021.
