The defending champions are well on their way to setting a record for the most players from one team to appear on the NFL’s Top 100, an annual countdown of the best players in the NFL as decided by their fellow players.
NFL Network debuted numbers 100-41 on Sunday night and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had six players appear. The record, you may be wondering, is seven which both the Saints and Ravens reached in last year’s countdown.
For the Bucs, just numbers 100-41 set a team record for most players to appear on the list and there will be more to come for sure. Announced on night one were;
89 – RT, Tristan Wirfs
88 – OLB, Shaquil Barrett
81 – WR, Chris Godwin
59 – OLB, Jason Pierre-Paul
48 – WR, Mike Evans
43 – LB, Lavonte David
Mike Evans, Shaquil Barrett, and Chris Godwin suffered drops from their 2020 rankings, but they’ll gladly do so in exchange for the ring they received last month. On the flip side, David jumped to 43, up from 100 last year.
With numbers 40-11 being unveiled Sunday, August 22 and the top ten on Saturday, August 28 there’s no question there will likely still be a few Buccaneers left to announce. In fact, there’s still a certain quarterback that hasn’t been named yet and he will join Aaron Rodgers as the only two players left that have appeared on every NFL Top 100 list the NFL Network has shown. Last year, Larry Fitzgerald and Drew Brees joined them but with neither player on this year’s list, only Brady and Rodgers remain.
On the flip side, who might be getting snubbed? Is Devin White going to be left off this list entirely? Or did he jump ahead of his tag team partner and land somewhere in the top 40?
