Now THAT’S more like it. Less than a day after Harry Kane’s camp reportedly “threw down the gauntlet” in a one-sided Telegraph article by Jason Burt demanding that Tottenham Hotspur sell him to Manchester City, there’s now a new report in the Independent from Miguel Delaney stating that City are preparing a £150m bid for Kane in the last two weeks of the transfer window.
Tottenham reportedly value Kane at £160m and up until now Daniel Levy has held firm to his valuation. City have repeatedly tried to low-ball Tottenham with a series of bids, starting with one earlier in the summer that was £80m + £20m in add-ons, and more recently a similarly structured deal worth a total of £127m.
Delaney’s Independent article suggests that the £150m offer would be just to get Daniel Levy to the negotiation table, and that the Spurs chairman would likely insist on additional add-ons into the deal.
Sources say £150m alone would not be enough to clinch the deal, but it could at least open negotiations, and allow the inclusion of several add-ons. The most shared belief in an increasingly tedious saga is that it will go right to the wire.

Now THAT’S more like it. We have said for a while now that the onus is on Manchester City to make an acceptable bid, and is NOT on Daniel Levy to accept a lower one. £150m is actually more than what I thought would get this across the line, and if Levy insists on add-ons, the total price could approach what Spurs have actually valued Kane at.
To be clear, “preparing a bid” does not equate “actually has submitted a bid.” Delaney is a good journalist, though, and this really does feel like the natural progression of this entire saga. £150m would be, obviously, a UK record transfer fee and would be transformative money for Spurs even as they lose their homegrown talisman and the best striker in England.
But in short, this feels like finally, FINALLY Manchester City are taking this whole thing seriously. Maybe we’ll finally get an end to this whole saga now.
