A new Horizon Zero Dawn update has added 60fps mode on PS5 – Video Games Chronicle

A new update for Horizon Zero Dawn has added a 60fps mode for PlayStation 5 users.

Update 1.53 is out now and unlocks the frame rate so the game can now run at 60fps in backwards compatibility mode.

It also removes the Graphics Mode option from the game when it’s running on a PS5, because the update makes it redundant. It also fixes streaming performance issues when the game is being played on a PlayStation 5.

The patch was officially announced during the Gamescom Opening Night Live event, during which it was also confirmed that sequel Horizon Forbidden West has been delayed to February 2022.

The patch notes for the new update read as follows:

Horizon Zero Dawn version 1.53 patch notes

  • Unlocked framerate to 60 frames per second when running on a PS5 console in backwards compatibility mode
  • Fixed streaming performance issues when running on a PS5 console in backwards compatibility mode
  • Removed Graphics Mode option from the Visual Settings when running on a PS5 console in backwards compatibility mode

Guerrilla announced the game’s sequel Horizon: Forbidden West for PS5 in June 2020 ahead of a planned 2021 release date. The game was later confirmed for PS4 too.

Forbidden West was planned for a 2021 release, but has now been officially delayed until February 18, 2022.

Prior to the sequel’s announcement, VGC revealed that PlayStation and Guerrilla are planning a Horizon Zero Dawn trilogy.

Amsterdam-based Guerrilla had always desired to deliver a series of Horizon games – and a multi-part script was written – but the plan was only officially agreed after the original game’s strong debut on PlayStation 4.

Horizon is set on a far-future Earth where nature has reclaimed the planet, but massive animal-like machines rule the land. Zero Dawn follows the story of Aloy, a young woman on a quest to explore the ruins of the ancient past.

The title was both a commercial and critical success, and went on to win the 2018 BAFTA Games Award for Original Property.
