2021 Tour Championship leaderboard: Patrick Cantlay edges Jon Rahm to win FedEx Cup, $15 million grand prize – CBSSports.com

The final round of one of the longest seasons in PGA Tour history concluded Sunday with Patrick Cantlay emerging as the wire-to-wire winner of the 2021 Tour Championship. With the victory, Cantlay finished first in the FedEx Cup Playoffs and brought home the $15 million grand prize from the massive $46 million purse.

Jon Rahm, who moved into second on Thursday and maintained that position going toe-to-toe with Cantlay through the weekend, finished one shot back of Cantlay’s 21-under score to capture a none-too-shabby $5 million runner-up prize. He had an eagle putt to potentially tie the event on the 72nd hole Sunday, but it ran just past the hole, allowing Cantlay the chance to two-putt his way to victory without trailing once over the four-day event.

The win Sunday marked Cantlay’s fourth of the season. That level of achievement puts him firmly in place to win PGA Tour Player of the Year honors. Cantlay also captured back-to-back events to end the season, winning the BMW Championship last week to give himself a two-stroke lead on the rest of the field at East Lake Golf Club when Tour Championship action began Thursday.

Cantlay is the 13th different golfer to win the Tour Championship in the event’s 15-year history.

“It was tough. It was definitely different than any other week,” said Cantlay of leading the FedEx Cup for over a week. “It’s the longest lead I’ve ever held. I just tried to stay day after day in the present.”

Justin Thomas (-14), who finished five back of Cantlay in fourth, placed inside the top 10 in his fifth straight Tour Championship. Kevin Na (-15) finished solo third with Xander Schauffele and Viktor Hovland tying for fifth place. Check out how the top 30 fared winning significant prize money in the FedEx Cup.
