The day NBA-loving gamers have been waiting for arrived recently: NBA 2K22 has been released. As always, with the hype also comes controversy, as the ratings of both players and teams get endlessly debated. This year is not exception, with some players like LeBron James already having expressed their disapproval before the game even dropped.
For Spurs fans, it might be a tough season, if they plan to play with their favorite team. San Antonio has been rated as a tier 3 team with the second to last average player rating in the league, behind only the Thunder. The Silver and Black only has two players with a rating above 80: Dejounte Murray, the best player on the team with an 82 overall rating, and Keldon Johnson, who sits at an even 80. New additions Thaddeus Young and Doug McDermott have ratings of 79 and 76, respectively. Meanwhile, rookie Josh Primo sits at 71, tied for the 23rd best rating among rookies.

The good news is that Spurs fans will still have two classic teams to choose from if they want to dominate with the Silver and Black, as both the 2004/05 and 2013/14 teams will be available and feature the Big 3. Meanwhile, the All-Time team has most of the best players in franchise history on its roster, from David Robinson and Sean Elliott to James Silas and George Gervin. Tim Duncan is also a part of the 2000’s All-Decade team and sports a rating of 99, the same as Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett. There will be options, if playing with the current team proves to be too big of a struggle.
As for the rest of the league, the top 10 players in the game remained the same, with some shuffling in terms of position. For the second year in a row, Stephen Curry and LeBron top the list, but now share that spot with Kevin Durant, who proved to be in top form last season in his return from injury. Former Spur DeMar DeRozan sits as the 36th best player in the game.
There’s no Spur in the top 50, with Murray appearing all the way down at 61. At least Dejounte saw his rating improve (although not to his personal satisfaction), unlike Derrick White, who lost an overall point, going from 79 to 78. Hopefully we’ll see not only White but also other San Antonio players get better ratings as the season goes on and the young guys get to show how good they can be.
Also, it would be great if three-year Drew Eubanks gets a character model that actually resembles him even a little.
So, what do you think, Spurs fans? Is the young core rated correctly or should they be higher? Will you be buying the game and using the Spurs or switching to a team with a more stacked roster? Let us know in the comments.
