There were a lot of questions about the Seattle Seahawks coming into this week’s matchup against the Minnesota Vikings, and unfortunately, a whole lot of them were answered this week in a very bad way. Here’s how some notable Seahawks are processing the loss.

Pete Carroll: “This was a really difficult game for us.” He sounded open to personnel changes on defense, specifically at CB. Said Ugo Amadi’s penalty shouldn’t have been as costly as it was. Said Tyler Lockett appears to be OK. On rebounding from 1-2: “We have to stay together.”

While Tre Flowers and D.J. Reed weren’t available at the podium, a few reporters tracked them down and asked a few questions on the players’ way to the team bus, and the two had a lot to say about the game. The fact that both were citing scheme confusions is a worrying sign for the job security of Ken Norton Jr. and the other defensive coaches.
Tre Flowers, asked if #Seahawks‘ last two games on defense are concerning: “Concerning? No, not all. It’s a 17-game season. It’s a long way. We are going to fix whatever it is, and get back to work.”

D.J. Reed said on top of all the other problems with scheme, covering and run-stopping, #Seahawks “had a couple plays where obviously we didn’t communicate and we just gave them a free play. You know, you’ve got to make the offense work for it–especially on third down.”

Interesting comments from Tre Flowers on Seattle’s pass defense: “It’s a schematic thing, I feel like. I’ve got my own questions to ask.” Said there’s confusion among some guys on how to defend certain routes. “It’s going to be an easy fix once we all get on the same page.”

We had some really bad injury scares with Tyler Lockett and Jordyn Brooks, both of whom turned out to be okay, but the Seahawks didn’t escape Minneapolis unscathed.
Carroll said Marquise Blair banged his knee during the week and they thought he was fine, but then in pregame warm-ups he “just didn’t feel right,” leading to him being a late scratch.

Wrapping up, Pete Carroll was extremely critical of the defense, implying that the team is prepared to go back to the drawing board this week before next Sunday’s matchup against San Francisco.
